TEEING OFF
• The defending WAC champions are hitting the links. NM State begins the spring portion of its 2021-22 season by making for Tuscon, Ariz., to take part in the Arizona Intercollegiate.
• The Tucson Country Club - a 7,022-yard par-72 course - serves as the site of the Arizona Intercollegiate. It's the first time since 1992 that the course will host the event.\
• NM State is one of 14 teams competing in the event, joining the likes of Arizona, Arkansas, Augusta, BYU, California, Duke, Iowa State, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, San Francisco, Santa Clara, St. Mary's and UTEP at the two-day event.
• The teams will tee off at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning and play 36 holes on the first day of the event. Tuesday's second day will consist of 18 holes.
• The Aggies' lineup will consist of Matt Jackman, Alvaro Morales, Joseph Robson, Garrison Smith and Aidan Thomas. Thomas will tee off on hole 11 Monday while Morales and Robson will begin their day from hole 12. Jackman and Smith are set to tee off on hole 13.
• NM State previously competed at the Arizona Intercollegiate in 2014, 2003 and 2001. The Aggies' third-place finish in 2003 (+1) was their best team placing ever.
• Competing as an individual for the Aggies in 1981, Dan Koesters won the individual championship at the inaugural Arizona Invitational. Koesters carded a 206 (-4) during the course of the tournament.
COMING UP NEXT
• NM State is off for a few weeks following the team's lone event in the month of January. The Aggies' next action on the links sends them to Laredo, Texas, where they'll compete in the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club. The two-day event is set for Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 14-15.
