LAS VEGAS - Day one of NM State's spring season was - quite literally - perfect.
NM State moved to 2-0 on the spring by claiming a 4-0 shutout victory over Big Sky foe Weber State Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
The win made NM State 2-0 in dual match play for the first time since the spring of 2019.
DOUBLES
• Much like what happened in their morning showdown with UC Riverside, the Aggies had to play all three doubles matches out in order to get the job done.
• Louis Menard and Jordy Visser made quick work of Weber State's top-flight tandem of Tristan Sarap and Elyes Marouani, ceding just two game to the Wildcats' duo in a 6-2 triumph.
• Again, though, Martin Simecek and Itay Feigin dropped their showdown on line three. NM State's pair was doubled up, 6-3, by the Wildcats' Jordan Coutinho and Matteo Savio, leaving it up to the number-two flight to settle the doubles point.
• Going neck-and-neck with Weber State's Bo-Han Li and Arthur Serafim, Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke closed things out in strong fashion to pick up a 7-6 victory. That win not only gave NM State the doubles point and a 1-0 lead, it made Akkermans and Clarke 2-0 through their first two doubles tilts of the spring.
SINGLES
• In control thanks to their doubles wins, the Aggies didn't let up once singles play got going.
• Visser continued his strong start in singles action, scoring a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Coutinho in flight five action to put NM State ahead 2-0.
• Menard was a singles winner for the first time in the spring, securing a 6-3, 6-3 top flight victory over Sarap.
• Needing just one more point in order to clinch the match, the Aggies got it courtesy of one of their newest players. Feigin posted the first collegiate singles victory of his career and ended the match in the process with his 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Chia-Chieh Lin.
COMING UP NEXT
