Aggies Show Improvement at New Mexico Team Open

 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - NM State returned to the Duke City for the second weekend in a row for the New Mexico Team Open, hosted by the University of New Mexico. 
 
The Aggies day began in the weight throw, where Emily Hernandez (fourth) and Phetisang Makhethe (fifth) managed top-five finishes with throws of 17.49m and 17.16m, respectively. Hernandez set a new personal record which also placing her seventh all-time in NM State history in the weight throw. This marks the first competition for Makhethe as an Aggie. 
 
Sophomore Aliyah Logan set a new personal record in the 200m with a time of 25.63, recording a fourth-place finish, her best placement in the event. 
 
Brianna Gayle set a new personal record in the 60m dash, recording a 7.69 in the prelims.
 
Albuquerque native and La Cueva graduate Israel Swanson posted a new personal record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.13.
 
Valissa Brown had an outstanding showing in Albuquerque, entering her name into a pair of top-ten program records. In the long jump, Brown recorded a jump of 5.57, setting a personal record while landing her in ninth place at the New Mexico Team Open, as well as ninth all-time in program history. In the 60m hurdle prelims, Brown managed a time of 8.50, good for third in program history. In the finals, Brown finished with a time of 8.50, placing 3rd. 
 
 
The Aggies will make one final regular season trip to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Classic before they get a well-deserved two-week break leading up to the WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
