NM State Ends Opening Weekend of Play with 4-0 Loss against Hawaii

Aggies move to 2-2 through first four dual matches

LAS VEGAS - Hoping to string together back-to-back dual match wins for the first time in 2022, the NM State men's tennis team was instead unable to generate any wins as the Aggies suffered a 4-0 setback to Hawaii at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.

NM State moved to 2-2 in 2022 while Hawaii improved its mark to 3-1.

DOUBLES
• Flights one and three were where Hawaii collected wins to take the lead.
• Louis Menard and Jordy Visser teamed in top-flight action again but secured just two games in their 6-2 loss to Andrea Ilagan and Karl Collins.
• Pairing for the first time in 2022, Martin Simecek and Ryan Ford fared better than their top-flight teammates, but couldn't get a win to challenge for the doubles point. Ford and Simecek dropped a 6-3 decision to Blaz Seric and Kilian Maitre, handing the doubles point to the Rainbow Warriors.
• Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke needed just one more game to claim victory on flight two, but instead went unfinished in their second-flight fight with Axel Labruine and Simão Telo Alves. Akkermans and Clarke were ahead 5-3 at the time the doubles point was clinched.

SINGLES
• The bottom three flights were where the match was decided.
• Itay Feigin suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Collin in flight six action, pushing Hawaii's lead to 2-0 in the process.
• Visser dropped his first singles match of 2022, falling to Labruine by a 6-2, 6-2 tally up on line four.
• Hawaii sealed the deal when Guillaume Tattevin stepped in on line five and handed Akkermans a 6-3, 6-4 loss.
• The only NM State player who was in the lead when Hawaii clinched the win was Clarke. NM State's Australian was in a 6-3, 3-3 battle with Alves on line three but couldn't continue his quest for a singles win.

COMING UP NEXT
• Tucson, Ariz., is the Aggies' destination for their next matches of the spring. NM State is set to play two dual matches at Pac-12 foe Arizona Sunday, playing the Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. and against at 2:00 p.m.
