Complete WAC Release
DENVER - Teddy Buckets did it again.
Monday morning, NM State redshirt junior guard Teddy Allen earned his third WAC Player of the Week award of the 2021-22 season.
Allen is the first NM State player to collect three or more WAC Player of the Week laurels in a singles season since 2017-18 when Jemerrio Jones (three) and Zach Lofton (four) amassed a total of seven WAC Player of the Week citations between them.
Noted for his lethal long-range shooting ability, Allen let the three-point line go unused Saturday night in the Pan American Center and elected to victimize Grand Canyon from elsewhere on the court. An array of mid-range shots as well as some impressive forays to the tin allowed Allen to finish with a game-high 28 points in NM State's 71-61 victory over the Lopes. The win allowed NM State to remain in second place in the league standings while snapping the Aggies' three-game skid to the Lopes.
Allen finished with an 8-of-11 performance from the field and added to his 28-point output by putting in all 12 of his tries from the foul line. In addition to his point production, Allen added to the Aggies' victory by yanking down a game and career-high 12 rebounds to finish off the third double-double performance of his NCAA Division I career.
After being limited to just two points in NM State's setback at Sam Houston on Thursday, Jan. 20, Allen has returned to his high-scoring ways. The Phoenix, Ariz., product leads the team and ranks third in the WAC in scoring at a rate of 18.6 points per game. Not just a scorer, Allen also tops the Aggies' charts in rebounding at 7.2 per game - the fourth-highest average in the league.
Allen and the rest of the Aggies continue their longest WAC homestand of the 2021-22 campaign this week Thursday night when California Baptist pays a visit to the Pan American Center for the first time since March 5, 2020. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
