The second round will resume at 10 a.m.CT Tuesday.

LIVE RESULTS AND SCORING

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
Naturally, as the NM State women's golf team makes a trip to Kansas for the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, the first cold day of the year hits the Midwestern part of the United States. With howling winds and temperatures below 50 degrees for the majority of the day, the Aggies had to battle until the sun went down.

Play was suspended with the Aggies scattered across the course. With anywhere from 13 to 15 holes played, the sun quite literally set on NM State's opening day in the Sunflower State. Play cannot resume until at least 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday, due to a freeze warning lingering over Kansas.

Against an NCAA Regional-esque field, the Aggies held their own. Alison Gastelum and Kaylee Chen led the way for NM State, tying for 36th when play halted. Chen, a true freshman, was shooting an even 56 when play paused. Chen, alongside Emma Bunch and Alex Quihuis, will resume play on hole 7 in the morning.

Valentina Origel will begin Tuesday on hole 6 with a 64 (+7) on her scorecard while Gastelum will tee off of hole 5. Through the second round's early stages, neither Origel or Gastelum have carded a birdie.

There has not yet been a decision made as to the status of a potential third round.

Round One Notes
  • After the opening round, NM State was tied with Washington State, shooting a 320 (+32).
  • Alison Gastelum led the Aggies, shooting a 78 (+6).
  • Valentina Origel and Emma Bunch finished just behind Gastelum, shooting a pair of 80s (+8).
  • Kaylee Chen was the only Aggies to birdie multiple times in the opening round.

Round Two Notes
  • Emma Bunch has found success on Par 4's thus far, averaging 4.11 strokes, tied for fourth in the field.
  • Kent State leads the way after one day of play, shooting seven over par.
  • Kent State's Mayka Hoogeboom is shooting one-under to lead all individuals.
  • When play was suspended, NM State remained above BYU, Notre Dame, Boston College, Iowa, and Washington State.
