• The Aggies enter Monday night's matchup following WAC win number three of the season as they were pushed to five sets for the first time this season on Saturday evening against Sam Houston
• NM State will be seeking revenge in the early week meeting against the Vaqueros after UTRGV swept the Aggies in Las Cruces in the WAC opener.
Weekend Notes
• The five set match provided an opportunity for a pair of team season highs and several individual career highs. As a team, NM State recorded more kills than they have in any match this season with 68 while also tallying a season-high 65 assists.
• Individually,
Molly Johnson had a career night as she posted career highs in kills (17), attempts (38), digs (21), blocks (7) and assists (3).
• Meanwhile, freshman setter
Rilen Garcia achieved a career-best 27 assists while
Lia Mosher posted a season-best eight blocks.
• On the back end,
Darian Markham reached 20-plus digs for the fourth time this season with 20 total digs against the Bearkats.
• Currently, both
Lia Mosher and
Rylee Fay are among the best in the WAC as Mosher continues to lead the conference in hitting percentage (.371) and Fay paces the league in service aces per set (0.63). Fay also ranks eighth in the country in aces per set.
• In addition to her dominance this season,
Lia Mosher continues to move up the all-time ranks in program history. The sixth-year senior currently sits in fifth all-time in Aggie history in both total blocks (428) and block assists (358) while she ranks 10th in solo blocks (70). She also ranks second all-time in career hitting percentage at .349.
• Meanwhile,
Katie Birtcil's mark of 3.61 kills per set is good for second in the WAC and
Darian Markham's 4.44 digs per set average ranks fourth in the conference.
• As a team, the Aggies are currently holding opponents to a .181 combined hitting percentage - a mark that is good for third in the conference.
• The Aggies also rank third in the league in assists (12.07), kills (13.00) and fourth in aces per set (1.58).
• With yet another seven-ace outing against the Thunderbirds last Thursday, Fay is the only server in the country to achieve seven or more aces in multiple four-set contests.
