LIVE RESULTS

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State men's and women's cross country teams will head to Albuquerque this Friday to compete at the 2022 NCAA Mountain Regional hosted by the University of New Mexico

THE STARTING LINE

  • Coach Rath will take eight athletes from his men and women's cross country teams to compete at this year's regional
  • Thobile and Thulisile Amon, Emily Stutesman, Maggie Gibbs, Kayla O'Connell, and Richelle Sandin on the women's side - Anekin Hetman and Collins Yego will go for the men.
  • The meet will take place at UNM North Golf Course on Friday, November 11, 2022. At 11:00 a.m. MT, the Aggie women will compete in a six-kilometer race, followed by the men's ten-kilometer race at noon.
  • The last meet for both teams was the WAC Championships two weeks ago in Nacadoches, Texas. The women came out of that one with a third-place finish after three runners crossed in the top 20. The men finished eleventh, however, made significant strides individually, something that veteran runner Anekin Hetman emphasized at the end of his race where he also finished in the top-20.

THE FIELD

  • Some of the schools slated to compete at the regional this year include:

Men:

  • #2 BYU
  • #3 Northern Arizona
  • #5 Air Force
  • #9 Colorado
  • #21 Montana State
  • #28 Colorado State

Women:

  • #2 New Mexico
  • #4 Northern Arizona
  • #6 BYU
  • #8 Colorado
  • #9 Utah
  • #20 Colorado State
  • #27 Utah Valley

Just to name a few.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

  • Anekin Hetman is coming off a performance at the WAC Championships that saw him finish 17th, setting a personal record with a time of 24:04.8. Impressively, this was 30 seconds off his previous record, which he set back in September at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
  • Freshman Collins Yego also had an impressive showing at the WAC Championship after he set a personal record of his own finishing with a 24:49.8. His previous PR also came at the Dave Murray Invitational where he ran an 8k time of 25:18.5.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

  • Thubile and Thulisile Amon continue to be the dynamic pair of runners that Coach Rath had hoped they would be when he brought them over from South Africa two seasons ago. The pair both finished their WAC Championship races in the top 20 ending with sub-21 marks for the second time this season.
  • Emily Stutesman is coming off one of her best seasons as an Aggie. The Senior out of Glendale finished every race this year in the top 40 of runners and set a personal record at the WAC Championships with a 20:42.4 time, coming in tenth place.
  • Maggie Gibbs comes into Albuquerque after a 22nd place finish two weeks ago, crossing the line at 21:13.2.
  • Kayla O'Connel finished her race a few weeks ago with a 22:14.8 mark placing in the top 50.
  • Senior Richelle Sandin also had a nice year. She came close to beating her PR at the Dave Murray invitational missing her mark by just over 24 seconds. At the WAC Championships she finished 28th with a time of 21:34.6.
