LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Head Coach Greg Heiar and his staff never sleep. At least that's what it feels like.
Coach Heiar announced Thursday that consensus four-star prospect Darius Carr has officially signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Aggies in 2023-24. Carr's commitment makes him the second highest-ranked high school player to sign with the Aggies in the program's history.
Darius Carr | CG | 6-3 | 190 | Los Angeles, Calif. | Fairfax HS
- According to 247 Sports, Carr is the 85th-ranked player in the class of 2023, the 15th-ranked combo guard in his class and the 13th-ranked player in the state of California – arguably one of the best basketball states in the country.
- After playing one season at St. Bernard High School in Playa Del Ray, Calif., Carr will play his senior season for Head Coach Jamal Hartwell at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles.
- As a junior at St. Bernard, Carr led the Vikings to a 24-8 overall record and a 5-3 record in league play.
- The quick-twitch two-way guard also plays for one of the premier grassroots basketball programs in the country in Compton Magic – a program that the current NM State Director of Player Development, Darin Graham, used to be a part of.
- Compton Magic has produced 44 athletes who have gone on to play professionally, including 30 individuals that have played in the NBA. Most recently, the program helped develop a pair of top-10 NBA draft picks in Evan Mobley (No. 3 overall pick) and Onyeka Okongwu (No. 6 overall pick).
- Carr received offers from six Power Five programs (California, UConn, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Washington and Washington State) while also garnering offers from Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, San Diego State, St. John's and Xavier.
- The California product is the son of Quintonna Carr.
- The only NM State signee to receive a higher national rating was class of 2007 NM State signee Herb Pope who ventured to Las Cruces as the No. 23 player in his class.
