ARLINGTON, TEXAS – It has only been about a month and freshman phenom Naomi Slee is already making her name known across the WAC swimming scene.
On Wednesday, the NM State distance swimmer was named WAC Swimmer of the Week following an impressive performance on Saturday against Northern Arizona.
The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, native, picked up her first win of the weekend in the 1000-yard freestyle as she posted a time of 10:25.66 to reach the wall more than 10 seconds earlier than any other competitor. Not only was Slee's time the fastest on Saturday at the NM State Swimming and Diving Complex, but her altitude-adjusted time (10:19.36) was also the fastest time in the 1000 by any WAC swimmer this season.
Slee later solidified her name as a dominant force in the WAC as she picked up a second win in the 500 freestyle – racing to nearly a five-second victory with a time of 5:04.28 (5:01.78a). This also marked the second event in which she set a new season-best for the conference. Saturday's finish also gave Slee her fourth 500-free win in four attempts this year.
To wrap up her day, Slee's 52.67 split as the second leg of the 400 free relay helped lead the Aggie team to a second-place finish against the Lumberjacks with a combined time of 3:31.75. This also marked the fastest time by any Aggie 400 free relay team this season.
