THE OPENING TIP
• Coming off the most lopsided win over its I-10 rival in over 50 seasons, NM State returns to the Pan American Center to host Simon Fraser.
• The added contest against the Red Leafs was announced on Wednesday, Dec. 30 and will mark the sixth time in each program's history that they will meet.
THE THREE AMIGOS
• Entering Wednesday, the backcourt trio of
Xavier Pinson,
Deshawndre Washington and DaJuan Gordon are the only three Aggies to appear in the starting lineup in each of the Aggies' first four tilts.
• The three guards hailing from Chicago, Ill., also combine to average 38.2 of the Aggies' 83.6 points per game.
I-10 RUNS THROUGH LAS CRUCES
• With the win over the Miners on Wednesday, the Aggies picked up their 11th-straight home win over their I-10 rivals.
• Wednesday's 25-point victory was the biggest win for either side since January 20, 1968, when the Aggies routed the Miners 96-64 inside the Pan American Center.
AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
• A pair of Aggies have played their way into the top of the statistical rankings this season as Northwest Florida State transfers
Deshawndre Washington and
Issa Muhammad are among the top 15 Division I players in assists per game and field goal percentage, respectively.
• Washington averages 6.0 helpers per contest to rank 14th while Muhammad is converting shots at a 70.3% clip to rank 10th in the nation.
ROY'S BEEN ROCKIN'
•
Anthony Roy's 23-point outing on Wednesday against UTEP marked the sophomore's second-consecutive scoring line of 20 or more points.
• Roy achieved his scoring line in just 23 minutes while going 7-10 from the field, including 3-4 from deep. The Oakland, Calif. native also knocked down all six of his free throw attempts.
"X GON' GIVE IT TO YA"
• Aggie leading scorer
Xavier Pinson recorded his fourth-straight game with double-digits in the scoring column as he posted 18 points against the Miners.
LATE LOCKDOWN
• The Aggies held the Miners without a made three-point field goal in the second half of the mid-week meeting as they finished the half 0-10.
• NM State's second-half perimeter defense has been something of note as it has held its five opponents to a combined 14-60 (.233) from beyond the arc in the second half of games.
• This is an 18% improvement in comparison to the first half marks as teams are 32-78 (.410) during the first half of games.
SCOUTING THE RED LEAFS
• In his seventh year with the program, Steve Hanson will be at the helm for the Red Leafs on Monday night.
• On the court, the Red Leafs are led in scoring by 6-6 guard Immanuel Oludele who averages 11.7 points per game.
• Nigel Hylton is the lone other SFU player to average double figures this season, scoring 11.4 points per contest.
• After opening the season with wins in three of its first four contests, Simon Fraser will head to New Mexico on a three-game losing streak, including a 61-75 home loss to Western Washington on Saturday.
• In five meetings, the Aggies are 5-0 all-time against their foes from Canada. All five games took place in Las Cruces.
