Watch Championships
 
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –  The Aggies travel to Albuquerque this weekend where they will defend their 2020 Championship title. The title holders showed continuous improvement throughout the regular season, seeing more and more runners and throwers place at events.
 
The last time the Aggies were in the Championships, it was a day to remember as NM State took first in seven different competitions. Returning Aggies, Essence Brown and Asjah Wallace look to improve on their second place finishes at the 2020 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championship. Junior Terice Steen will look to play her part in defending the gold medal in the 4x400 relay.
 
There will be quite a few Aggies making their debut in a championship setting after the 2021 season was canceled, due to COVID. One of those first timers will be reigning WAC Field Athlete of the Week Phetisang Makhethe, who will be competing in her fourth collegiate event.

Last weekend was a throwers only event for NM State, but two personal best records were set by two different Aggies.

• Phetisang Makhethe threw for a personal best of 18.06m in the weight throw
• Makiya Moore threw for a personal best of 17.22m in the weight throw
• Rebecca Green placed herself seventh all time in school history for the shot put with a toss of 14.03m

 
All the action will begin Friday with both field and running events set to start in the afternoon. On Saturday, field events will begin in the morning and move to the running events in the afternoon.
