NM State Nabs Fourth Place at 2022 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

RESULTS
 
 
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An impressive string of performances by the Aggies at day two of the WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships gave NM State a fourth place finish, finshing with 94 points and trailing only GCU (112), Stephen F. Austin (107), and Abilene Christian (106.5). Multiple Aggies set personal bests, while a pair of NM State athletes took first place at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
1 Mile Final
Thobile Amon set a new personal best of 4:59.57 in the finals, taking fourth place and improving on her time of 5:07.67 in qualifying.
 
3000m Final
A pair of Aggies found themselves in the top eight of the 3000m, with Emily Stutesman taking fifth with a time of 10:08.80, while Maggie Gibbs finished eighth with a time of 10:11.90, setting a new personal best in the process.
 
4x400m Relay
The team of Terice Steen, Thulisile Amon, Grace Pendarvis and Jhana Downie combined to finish with a time of 3:46.26, good for second place behind Stephen F. Austin.
 
60m Final
Grace Pendarvis set a personal best in event with a time of 7.67, giving her sixth place and earning three points to add to the NM State total.
 
200m Final
Pendarvis had herself a performance in both the 60m and the 200m. She set personal records in both events. For the 200m, she finished in first place after recording a time of 23.94.
 
400m Final
An NM State duo of Jhana Downie (55.64) and Terice Steen (55.94) took fourth and sixth place respectively, adding eight points to the Aggies total on the day.
 
800m Dash Final
Thulisile Amon recorded a new personal best of 2:11.64, taking third place, her best finish as a Division I athlete.
 
 
60m Hurdles Final
Aliyah Logan ran away with first place in the 60m hurdles, setting a new personal best with a time of 8.39, earning ten points for the Aggies total.
 
 
Weight Throw Final
Phetisang Makhethe put together a record-breaking performance, taking first place with a throw of 19.39m and easily taking first place and eclipsing her previous best at NM State by over four feet.
 
 
Triple Jump Final
Valissa Brown took eighth with a jump of 11.66m, her best mark of the season in the event and earning a point for the Aggies in the Championship standings.

The NM State Track & Field Team has wrapped the indoor season and now turns their focus to the outdoor season, starting March 18 & 19 with the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Arizona.
