NM State Women's Golf in Ninth After Day One in California

SEAL BAY, Calif. – Competing against a loaded field in their first spring tournament, the NM State women's golf team sits in ninth place after day one at The Gold Rush, hosted by Long Beach State. While the field features a pair of top-ranked opponents, the Aggies are not backing down from the competition.
 
NM State's first day was highlighted by an eagle in the first round by Amelia McKee. On the par five fourteenth hole, McKee found the cup in three shots to mark to complete the feat.
 
Valentina Origel leads the Aggies after the first day with a total of 151. Origel sits just eight shots off of the lead and is tied for 12th after the first day.
 
Round One
  • After starting on the tenth hole, Valentina Origel posted three birdies on the back nine to post a team-best 75 in the opening round.
  • Alison Gastelum played flawless golf from holes ten to two, carding an even 44 throughout the stretch. Gastelum finished the round with a 78 on her scorecard.
  • The lone eagle of the day came from Amelia McKee, who carded a three on the par five fourteenth hole. The eagle helped pave the way for an 82 on the round for McKee.
  • Arantza Armas Stenner posted an 81 for the first round, carding a clean slate from holes fifteen to one.
Round Two
  • Just as she did in the first round, Origel led the Aggies with a 76 in the second round. Hitting every par from holes eleven to one, Origel used a birdie on the fifth hole to post a +3 for the round.
  • In her second round, Gastelum got her score down to a -2 with birdies on holes seven and nine before finishing with an 81 for the afternoon.
  • McKee's second round was highlighted by a birdie on the seventh to clear the way for an 85 on her scorecard.
  • After birdieing the tenth hole in her second round, Meiji Tungprapunvong finished the afternoon with an 84.
