ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Despite a colder than average day in the Duke City, the Aggies managed to still bring the heat and put together an impressive showing at the first day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
 
Emily Stutesman led the way for Aggies in the 3000m, taking first place and recording a new personal best of 9:59.31. Her time at the Collegiate Classic places her fifth on the all-time record list at NM State. The Aggies dominated the event, taking home five of the top ten spots. Maggie Gibbs finished third (10:13.21), Thobile Amon crossed the line in fifth (10:18.01), followed by Mia Regan in sixth (10:33.33, a new personal best), with Richelle Sandin finishing eight (10:49.44) to round out the Aggies in the top ten.
 
Jhana Downie took home the gold in the 200m unseeded with a time of 24.73, a new personal record. This is her best finish in the race, overtaking her fourth place finish at the Corky Classic. Sierra Brewer finished ninth with a time of 25.22, while Aliyah Logan recorded a new personal best with a time of 25.48.
 
Phetisang Makhethe recorded a personal best with a throw of 17.79 in the weight throw, taking second place. Makhethe now holds the fifth best weight throw all-time in Aggie history. Emily Hernandez took third in the event with a toss of 17.65, placing her seventh on the NM State all-time list.
 
Thulisile Amon took sixth in the 600m with a time of 1:35.37, her first time competing in this event at the collegiate level. Bailey Yost set a new personal best in the High Jump, recording a 1.46m in just her third time competing in the event. Valissa Brown finished ninth in the long jump with a final result of 5.50m, tied for her best finish in the event this season.
 
The Aggies return to the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday to finish their last regular season meet before the WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 18 & 19).
