LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Day two of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic has wrapped, and with that, so does the regular season for the Aggies, who now turn their focus to the WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 18
th & 19
th in Albuquerque.
In the mile run,
Thobile Amon took fourth with a time of 5:06.75,
Emily Stutesman finished fifth with a time of 5:08.20 (a new personal best), and
Maggie Gibbs crossed the line sixth with a time of 5:13.05 (a new personal best).
Jhana Downie competed in the 400m dash for the first time in her collegiate career, posting a time of 57.41. In the 4x400 relay the team of
Takiyah Johnson,
Terice Steen,
Jhana Downie and
Thulisile Amon combined to finish with a time of 3:47.91, taking fourth place in the event, while the 'B' team of Jahnya Hill,
Sheyenne Drake, Bailey Yost, and
Israel Swanson finished with a time of 4:01.90.
Israel Swanson set a new personal best of 8.98 in the 60m hurdles. Grace Pendarvis (7.79) and Sierra Brewer (7.88) posted top-ten finishes in the 60m dash, taking home sixth and tenth, respectively.
The Aggies have a two week break from competition before returning to Albuquerque one final time for the WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no Championship in 2021, making the Aggies reigning conference champions. In 2020 former Head Coach Doug Reynolds, along with current NM State Head Coach
Joseph Rath led the Aggies to their first ever WAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, taking home the crown in seven events (60m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 3000m, 60m hurdles, high jump and 4x400 relay) on the way to scoring 206 points, 49 points clear of second place.
