LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State indoor track and field team has made a late addition to the regular-season schedule. The Aggies will be headed back to Albuquerque to compete in the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, sending a select group of throwers to compete before heading to the WAC indoor championships the following weekend.

The five athletes that will be competing in Albuquerque this weekend are Rebecca Green, Emily Hernandez, Phetisang Makhethe, Makiya Moore, and Kaitlyn Ward. Green will be the lone Aggie competing in the shot put. Hernandez, Makhethe, Moore, and Ward will all be competing in the weight throw.

For Green, this will be her fifth time competing in the shot put this season. Her best mark came a few weeks ago at the MLK Collegiate Invitational when she placed fourth in the shot put and threw 14.23m (46' 8.25"), a personal record. This mark also put the sophomore sixth on the all-time school record list for the event.

This will also be Moore's fifth time competing in the weight throw this season. Last weekend at the New Mexico Classic, Moore threw a mark of 16.93m (55' 6.5") which was just shy of her personal best (17.00m, 55' 9.25") which she set the first meet of the season when she competed in the Corky Classic in Lubbock, TX on January 14.

After placing third in the weight throw last week at the New Mexico Classic with a personal-best mark of 17.65 (57' 11") and placing fourth at New, Mexico Team Open the week prior with a mark of 17.49m (57' 4.75"). Emily Hernandez will look to continue her recent dominance in the weight throw by heading up to Albuquerque with the rest of the throwing team. Her last two marks respectively put her at sixth and seventh on the school's all-time record list for the event.

Ward also set personal best in the weight throw last weekend with a mark of 14.36m (47' 1.5"). This will be her fourth time competing in the weight throw this season.

The South African freshman, Phetisang Makhethe will try to continue to make a name for herself this weekend as she will compete in her third ever collegiate meet. The first two meets for her went about as smooth as one could hope for. During her first meet at the New Mexico Team open on January 29, Makhethe placed fifth with a mark of 17.16m (56' 3.75"). The following week at the New Mexico Classic, she bested her mark by recording a distance of 17.79m (58' 4.5") which was good enough for second place.
