Aggies Earn Fourth First-Place Finish to Close Willie Williams Classic

Brewer, Downie, Pendarvis and Wallace take 4x100 crown

Tucson, AZ - After picking up three first-place finishes on Friday, the Aggies added a fourth win at Roy P. Drachman Stadium Saturday on day two of the Willie Williams Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona. Alongside the 4x100 win, NM State recorded multiple top-five finishes and personal bests.
 
Discuss Toss
Makiya Moore led the way for the Aggies, her mark of 42.90 meters landing her in eighth place. Rebecca Green finished just outside the top-ten, her toss of 40.08m placing her in 11th.
 
Triple Jump
Valissa Brown set a new personal best in the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.89m to take third place. Kaelyn Fenstermacher recorded a jump of 11.34m, good for sixth place while also setting a new personal best.
 
100m Hurdle
A trio of Aggies jumped into the top-six of the event, led by Asjah Wallace's wind-assisted time of 13.68 (+0.8 m/s), good for third place and a new personal best. Valissa Brown finished closely after Wallace, posting a time of 13.84, a personal best. Aliyah Logan rounded out the group of Aggies, taking sixth place with a time of 14.21.
 
100m Dash
Grace Pendarvis competed in the 100m dash for the first time in her college career, managing a runner-up finish in the event with a wind-assisted time of 11.88 (+0.4 m/s).  Aliyah Logan also cracked the top-ten, taking sixth place with a time of 14.21
 
200m Dash
Jhana Downie posted a personal best in the event, crossing the line sixth while recording a wind-assisted time of 24.47 (+0.4 m/s). Breanna Moss competed in her first event in an Aggie uniform, posting a time of 26.44 (+0.8 m/s). Victoria Vessera ran the 200m for the first time, recording a time of 26.99.
 
400m Dash
Vessera made her event debut for the second time this afternoon, the lone NM State entrant in the 400m dash putting together a time of 1:00.79.
 
800m Run
Thobile Amon participated in the 800m for the first time as part of the NM State track & field program, crossing the line fourth and setting a new personal best with a time of 2:10.05. Freshman Jahnya Hill competed in her first event as an Aggie, recording a time of 2:33.11.
 
400m Relay
Sierra Brewer, Downie, Pendarvis, and Wallace gave the Aggies their fourth first-place finish of the weekend, winning the 4x100 with a combined time of 45.31.
 
1600m Relay
The Aggies fielded three teams in the event, the team consisting of Thulisile Amon, Jhana Downie and Asjah Wallace led the way, taking the silver medal with a time of 3:44.55. The NM State 'B' team of Terice Steen, Pendarvis, Takiyah Johnson and Israel Swanson managed fifth place with a time of 3:53.76; the 'C' team consisting of Logan, Moss, Jahnya Hill and Veserra placed sixth with a time of 4:04.33.
 
UP NEXT
The NM State track & field program will be heading to the Golden State March 24-26 for the 43rd Aztec Classic in San Diego, hosted by San Diego State University. Last season, the Aggies managed a fifth-place finish at the event with Corrine Hanson winning the 3000m steeplechase and Yemisi Oroyinyin taking the shotput crown.
