NM State Closes Penultimate Meet in Albuquerque

The Aggies look ahead to the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson on Saturday, May 2.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – NM State returned to the Land of Enchantment for Don Kirby Twilight, hosted by the University of New Mexico. Overall, the team secured three event wins and 18 top-five finishes with a small group as the team prepares for the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 
 
WOMEN'S
 
Hosting the hammer throw in Las Cruces for the second time this season, Kamryn Cadle topped an all-Aggie podium, taking first place with a mark of 52.04 meters. Julia Nystrand (48.13m) and Samonne Cauley (44.84m) rounded out the top three.
 
Opening the night in Albuquerque, Samonne Cauley tallied a new personal best in the shot put (12.55m) to take second overall. Avery Jordan finished in third with a mark of 11.74m (38-6.25"), her best result in Albuquerque. Elli Breckenridge also tallied her best finish of the day, taking fourth.
 
Aileen Alvarado recorded her fourth top-two finish of the outdoor season, taking second in Albuquerque with a mark of 1.61m.
 
The discus represented the lone event Alesha Lane competed in on Friday, taking first place for the third time this season, with a best mark of 51.88m (170-2"). Avery Jordan notched her third top-five finish (41.14m), while Elli Breckenridge recorded a new personal best (40.43m).
 
Competing for the first time during outdoor season, Kennedy Taylor recorded a fifth-place finish in the 400m.
 
Adéla Steinsová finished second in the 800m in the Duke City, posting an altitude-adjusted time of 2:12.59.
 
Amanda Radava crossed the line with a time of 4:28.45 in the 1500m – taking first in the event and notching her fourth top-five finish this season.
 
Closing the penultimate meet for the Crimson & White, Presley Edwards and Kylie Rubrecht competed in the javelin. Edwards finished third, while Rubrecht finished in fifth.
 
MEN'S
 
Jonah Archer opened the action on the track for the Crimson & White Friday night, recording a new personal best time of 10:06.65.
 
Orion Chavez paced the trio of Aggie men in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:01.14 in his event debut to take seventh. Angel Maese (2:01.92, ninth) and Nick Allred (2:09.78, 10th) added top-10 finishes for NM State.
 
Derick Castellanos paced the team in the 1500m, recording a time of 4:09.32 to take eighth overall. Orion Chavez added his second top-10 finish of the meet, with a result of 4:10.40 to finish ninth, while Gabriel Uranga (4:14.56) took 10th. Competing for the first time in outdoor competition this season, Omer Ibrahim posted a time of 4:15.12.
 
In all, the Aggies totaled three event wins, 18 top-five finishes and three personal bests.
 
UP NEXT
NM State will compete in its regular-season finale on May 2, traveling to Tucson for the Desert Heat Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona.
