National Spotlight
After recording four fourth place finishes at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson last weekend, the Aggies look to continue their strong start to the season heading into the Aztec Invitational, the second meet of NM State's outdoor season. A number of Aggies placed themselves atop early national performance lists including Thobile Amon and Phetisang Makhethe.
Makhethe currently holds the 15th best mark (61.72 meters - 202' 6") in the nation for hammer throws after her performance in Tucson last week, which saw her take first place. Amon dominated the competition last week taking home two top-five finishes in the 3000 steeplechase (third), and the 800m (fourth). In the 3000, she recorded a time of 11:16.42 seconds, which lands Amon 12th in the nation. In the 800, she recorded a time of 2:10.05, good for the 21st best time in the nation.
The 4x100 team of Sierra Brewer, Grace Pendarvis, Asjah Wallace, and Jhana Downie took first place in Tucson with a time of 45.31, the quartet putting together the 17th fastest time in the nation among competing schools.
