Aggies Competitive On First Two Days in Los Angeles

NM State records multiple top-five finishes, personal bests across four different events

LOS ANGELES, CA - The NM State Track & Field program arrived in California Thursday night and hit the ground running at the Pacific Coast Invitational, returning to the field on Friday sending student-athletes to events at the Mt. SAC relays, the Beach Invitational, and the Bryan Clay Invitational. Phetisang Makethe recorded a pair of top-five finishes in the hammer throw on back-to-back days, while Richelle Sandin, Makiya Moore and Thulisile Amon posted their own top-ten finishes, and several Aggies posted new personal bests over the first two days of competition.
 
Thursday (Pacific Coast Invitational)

Shot Put
Rebecca Green led the way for the Aggies, placing fifteenth overall in a field of 53 and fifth in her Flight with a toss of 14.10 meters. Kaitlyn Ward took seventh in her Flight with a toss of 12.09m.
 
Discus Toss
Maikya Moore took first place in her Flight and finished tenth in a field of 55 with a toss of 50.87m, recording a new personal best in the process. Rebecca Green finished top of her Flight and 24th overall with a throw of 43.80m. Kaitlyn Ward managed a third place finish in her flight with a toss of 42.32m.
 
Hammer Throw
Phetisang Makethe captured fourth in her flight and fourth overall, setting a new personal best and crushing the all-time school record with a toss of 63.05m. Emily Hernandez took second place in her flight and tenth overall with a toss of 56.77m. Makiya Moore set a new personal best with a toss of 52.48m, taking second in her flight and sixteenth overall.
 
Javelin Toss
Mariah Humphrey took fourteenth overall with a throw of 39.40m, Bailey Beene following close behind finishing seventeenth overall with a toss of 38.45m.

800m Run
Thulisile Amon finished first in her heat and took tenth overall among college athletes at the Bryan Clay Invitational, setting a new personal best with a time of 2:05.42.
 
10,000m Run - Mens
Cole Shugart captured third overall with a time of 30:25.32, setting a new personal best.


Friday
 
100m Hurdles (Mt. SAC Relays)
Aliyah Logan captured nineteenth overall in a field of 52, and third in her heat with a time of 13.82, setting a new personal best. Valissa Brown managed a third place finish in her heat and 24th overall with a wind adjusted time of 13.97 (+0.5 m/s). Asjah Wallace took fourth in her flight with a wind adjusted time of 14.26 (+1.1 m/s).
 
200m Dash
Sierra Brewer finished 54th overall in a field of 113 with a time of 25.18 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Grace Pendarvis took fourth in her heat at the Mt. SAC relays, finishing with a wind adjusted time of 24.73 (+2.8 m/s).
 
400m Dash
Takiyah Johnson captured third in her heat at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 57.35.
 
400m Hurdles
Terice Steen took second in her heat and fifteenth overall in a field of 39 at the Mt. SAC relays with a time of 59.65. Israel Swanson crossed the line third in her heat and 22nd overall at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 1:03.76.
 
3000m Steeplechase (Beach Invitational)
Richelle Sandin took fifth place with a time of 11:19.58, eclipsing her previous best by about 45 seconds.
 
5000m Run
Kayla O'Connell set a personal best at the Beach Invitational, finishing with a time of 18:41.66.
 
Javelin Throw
Mariah Humphrey took the field for the second day in a row, taking 16th overall in a field of 46 with a throw of 42.02m.
 
Hammer Throw (Beach Invitational)
For the second day in a row, Phetisang Makethe posted a solid performance in the hammer throw, takinf second in her flight and second overall in a field of 55 with a toss of 63.78m. Emily Hernandez recorded a personal best for the second day in a row, taking fifth in her flight and 12th overall with a toss of 56.90m. Makiya Moore finished second in her flight and 26th overall with a toss of 52.13m.
