KERRVILLE, Texas – As the NM State women's golf team begins the hunt for its seventh WAC Women's Golf Championship in eight years, a strong start on day one was exactly the place to start. With 18 holes completed, the Aggies sit atop the leaderboard with a five stroke lead over Sam Houston and Seattle U, who are tied for second.

Amelia McKee and
Alison Gastelum – share the top spot on the leaderboard after the opening round. Two more –
Valentina Origel and
Meiji Tungprapunvong – remain inside the top 20 with a strong first day.
Round One
- Amelia McKee shot two-under on the back nine as she was the first Aggie back to the clubhouse. McKee's score of 71 (-1) put her in a tie for second place when she completed her round, tied with teammate Alison Gastelum. When the remainder of the field finished, McKee found herself in a tie for first place with Gastelum.
- Throughout the day, Gastelum found herself consistently within the top-five of the leaderboard. Late in the round, Gastelum made the climb back to the top, sharing the lead with McKee at the end of the round.
- Like McKee and Gastelum, Meiji Tungprapunvong and Valentina Origel sat in a tie at the end of the opening round. Both shooting 77 (+5), the duo sits in a tie for 13th place as the Aggies head into Tuesday's action.
- Arantza Armas Stenner found her stroke on holes 16 and 17, carding back-to-back birdies. The Durango, Mexico native finished the round shooting 80 (+8).
- NM State leads the nine-team field with 14 birdies as a team. McKee and Tungprapunvong share the individual lead with four apiece.
