Aggies Record Trio of First-Place Finishes at Don Kirby Tailwind

RESULTS
Albuquerque, N.M. – The NM State Track & Field team made their second trip to Albuquerque this outdoor season for the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational, hosted by University of New Mexico. The Aggies put together a solid string of performances, led by a trio of first-place finishes from Makiya Moore (Discus), Mariah Humphrey (Javelin) and Micah Too (Men's 1500m). Alongside the event wins, multiple student-athletes set personal bests, and some competed in events for the first times in their collegiate careers.
 
Long Jump
Victoria Veserra took third place in the long jump with a mark of 4.99 meters, tied for the best finish in the event for her career.
 
Shot Put
By far the busiest event of the afternoon for the Crimson & White, five of the nine entrants in the event represented NM State. Rebecca Green managed a runner-up finish, recording a toss of 13.45m. Makiya Moore finished close behind in third with a toss of 13.31, a new personal best. Bailey Beene and Mariah Humphrey competed in the event for the first time in an Aggie uniform, posting marks of 9.42m and 7.11m, respectively.  
 
Discus Throw
Makiya Moore led the way in the discus, recording a toss of 49.61m for her third victory in the event this season. Rebecca Green came away with third-place, posting a mark of 39.84. Kaitlyn Ward's fourth-place finish with a toss of 38.77m made it three Aggies in the top four. Bailey Beene competed in the event for the first time in her career, tallying a final toss of 33.63m.
 
Javelin Throw
Mariah Humphrey tallied her fourth first-place finish in the javelin this season, taking the gold with a toss of 45.41m. Bailey Beene finished second with a toss of 38.78m. Kaelyn Fenstermacher set a new personal best in the event, posting a mark of 26.04m.
 
Men's 800m
Cole Shugart and Anekin Hetman finished neck and neck in the event, Shugart edging out a second-place finish with a time of 2:00.27, a personal best. Hetman took third with a time of 2:00.28.
 
Men's 1500m
Micah Too recorded the third victory for the Aggies, crossing the line with a time of 4:08.63, a personal best and by far his best finish in the event.
 
Men's 5000m
Dilan Sanchez nabbed a fourth-place finish, recording a time of 16:42.74.
 
UP NEXT
Follwing a nine-day break, the NM State track & field program travels west to Tucson, Arizona for the Desert Heat Classic on Saturday, April 30. This meet marks the last of the regular season for the Aggies, and the last competition before the WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 12-14 in Seattle, Washington.
