NM State Closes Regular Season with Solid Showing at Desert Heat Classic

RESULTS
TUCSON, AZ - The NM State track & field team took to action at Roy P. Drachman Stadium for the Desert Heat Classic, their final meet of the season before the 2022 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 12th through 14th in Seattle. The Aggies put together a string of competitive finishes, along with posting new season and personal bests.
 
Hammer Throw 
Phetisang Makhete took fourth place among qualified entrants with a toss of 65.40 meters, setting a new personal best and smashing her own school record set two weeks ago at the Beach Invitational.  
 
Discus Throw 
Makiya Moore's toss of 50.24m secured an eighth place finish.
 
100m Hurdles
The Aggies secured a back-to-back-to-back finish, the trio of Aliyah Logan (13.84, +0.4 m/s), Valissa Brown (13.91, +0.4 m/s), and Asjah Wallace (14.03, +0.4 m/s) taking tenth, eleventh, and twelfth among college entrants.
 
400m Relay
The relay team consisting of Sierra Brewer, Grace Pendarvis, Jhana Downie and Asjah Wallace crossed the line fourth with a combined time of 44.85, setting a season beat time in the event.
 
800m Run
Thobile Amon nabbed fourth-place with a time of 2:08.80, tied for her best finish in the event and recording a new personal best in the process.
 
100m Dash
Grace Pendarvis recorded a new personal best in the event after posting a wind-adjusted time of 11.67 (+0.4 m/s), Sierra Brewer doing the same with her time of 12.03 (+1.0 m/s).
 
3000m Steeplechase
Kayla O'Connell completed the event for the first time, finishing with a time of 12:15.85.

400m Hurdles
Breanna Moss set a new personal best in the event, crossing the line with a time of 1:04.47.
 
200m Run
Grace Pendarvis set a new personal best with a wind-adjusted time of 23.86 (+0.2 m/s), taking sixth in the event.

Upon returning to the City of Crosses, the Aggies will enjoy a well-earned week off from competition, preparing for the 2022 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Seattle Thursday May 12th through Saturday May 14th.
