Aggies Dominate New Mexico Spring Invitational

NM State takes first place in eight different events

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The NM State track & field program made a quick trip up north to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Spring Invitational Thursday and dominated the one day event taking first in eight different events. The success continued for the program as the Aggies not only posted multiple top three finishes but also set various personal and school records.

Javelin Thrown
Mariah Humphrey (42.63m) and Bailey Beene (36.02m) placed first and second, respectively, in the javelin throw. Kaelyn Fenstermacher (24.33m) placed fourth in her first time competing in the event.

4X100 Relay
The 4x100m relay team of Grace Pendarvis, Sierra Brewer, Jhana Downie, Asjah Wallace, and Valissa Brown take the top spot with a time of 45.05.

100m hurdles
Aliyah Logan finished with a time of wind adjusted time of 4.15 (0.6).

1500m run
Sheyeene Drake took seventh with a time of 4:51.89 minutes and Kayla O'Connell competed in the race for the first time in her collegiate career and finished with a time of 5:04.88 minutes.

100m Dash
A trio of Aggie sprinters swept the top spots as Grace Pendarvis finished first with a wind adjusted time of 11.70 while Jhana Downie finished second with a wind adjusted time of 11.80 and Sierra Brewer finished third with at wind adjusted time of 12.00.
200m Dash
Jhana Downie took first with a time of 23.90, placing her sixth all time in school history.
 
400m Dash
Takiyah Johnson finished second posting a time of 57.64 seconds while Jahnya Hill finished third 57.79 seconds.
 
400m Hurdles
A pair of Aggies took the top two spots as Terice Steen finished first with a time of 1:00.55 and Israel Swanson finished second posting a time of 1:03.39. Breanna Moss placed fourth with a time of 1:05.81
 
Long Jump
Valissa Brown placed first in the event recording a jump of 5.75m and Victoria Becerra finished third with a jump of 5.68m. 
 
Triple Jump
Valissa Brown placed second posting a jump of 12.12m, which was good enough to place her 6th all time in school history. Kaelyn Fenstermacher recorded a jump of 11.31m, which placed her third in the competition.
 
Shot Put
Sophomore Rebecca Green placed first  throwing for a personal best of 14.35m, placing her 5th all time in school history. Makiya Moore had a throw of 12.76m which was enough for a third place spot and Kaitlyn Ward recorded a throw of 12.58m, placing her fourth.
 
Discus Throw
Makiya Moore recorded a throw of 46.52m, placing her seventh in school records and first in the competition. Rebecca Green placed second with a throw of 41.89m. Kaitlyn Ward finished out the top spots in third posting a throw of 40.58m.
 
UP NEXT
Following a quick in state, the Aggies will return to California to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays hosted by Azusa Pacific University. The three day event will start Thursday and conclude on Saturday in Los Angeles, Calif.
