RESULTS
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The first quartet of student-athletes to represent the Aggies at the 2022 NCAA West Preliminary Round, hosted by University of Arkansas, took to John McDonnell Field on Thursday. The Crimson & White competed in four different events, three track (100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 10,000m run) and one field event (hammer throw). While none of them managed to advance to nationals, they posted strong finishes and proved NM State can hang with the best of them.

Phethisang Makhethe was the first NM State competitor on the day, the hammer throw starting at 9:00 a.m. MT. The freshman phenom earned herself a spot in the toughest flight, all but three of the top 17 finishes coming from her flight. Makhethe recorded a final distance of 60.65m, good for 14th in her flight and 17th overall amongst stiff competition.

Aliyah Logan participated in the 100m hurdles but was the only student-athlete to record a DNF in the event.

Terice Steen was the second Aggie to partake in a track event, this time in the 400m hurdles kicking off at 7:20 p.m. MT. Steen finished fifth in her heat, barely missing a top-three spot and an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships after posting a time of 59.68 and taking 34th place.

Maggie Gibbs competed in the final event of the night, the 10,000m semifinals that started at 8:10 p.m. MT. Gibbs crossed the line 21st overall, finishing with a time of 34:32.86.
