NM State Heads to Colorado for Golfweek Red Sky Classic

The Aggies will tee off at 10:50 a.m. on Monday.

VAIL, Colo. – The NM State women's golf team will once again hit the links on Monday for their second tournament of the season. After a fifth place finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge, the Aggies head to Colorado to compete in the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.
 
In the opening tournament, freshman Emma Bunch proved that she could hang with anyone, carding an eighth-place tie. Bunch birdied 15 times in her first collegiate tournament and earned the second spot in the NM State lineup this week.
 
Steady as ever, Alison Gastelum shot under-par in each of the Aggies' three rounds in South Carolina. Going seven-under through the tournament, Gastelum picked up her first top-three season and once again solidifying her spot atop the NM State lineup.
 
Kaylee Chen and Valentina Origel will both compete once again compete in the Aggies' rotation. Origel was a staple in the Aggies 2021-22 lineup, competing in the NCAA Albuquerque Regional. The Golfweek Fall Challenge marked Chen's first collegiate tournament, where she tied for 37th place. In the final spot, Arantza Armas Stenner will make her 2022-23 debut for NM State.

The Field
Twenty teams fill the Red Sky Classic Field. Joining NM State will be East Tennessee State, Kennesaw State, Washington State, Evansville, Pepperdine, Incarnate Word, Northern Arizona, Colorado, Fresno State, Central Arkansas, Delaware, Rutgers, Xavier, Little Rock, Idaho, Eastern Michigan, Mercer, Northern Colorado, and Southern Illinois.
 
Format
Each of the three days in Vail will feature 18 holes of golf for the five NM State golfers. The Aggies will tee off at 10:50 a.m. on Monday with Pepperdine, Incarnate Word, and Northern Arizona rounding out the grouping.

Numbers to Know
1 – Arantza Armas Stenner will play in her first tournament of the year for NM State. Her most recent appearance in the NM State lineup came in the 2022 NCAA Albuquerque Regional.
 
5 – The Aggies finished in fifth place at the Golfweek Fall Challenge to kick off the 2022-23 season.
 
2 – Two Aggies – Alison Gastelum and Emma Bunch – carded top-ten finishes at the Golfweek Fall Challenge. Gastelum led the Aggies with a third place finish while Bunch tied for eighth in her first collegiate tournament.
 
70 - NM State enters the week anked 70th in the Golfweek team rankings. As an individual, Gastelum ranks 79th among all Division I golfers.
