VAIL, Colo. – While moving is never easy, the NM State women's golf team made it look effortless on Tuesday when they jumped right spots on the leaderboard at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. No team gained more ground than NM State on Tuesday as the Aggies posted the second-lowest score of the day with a 291 (+3).
Alison Gastelum moved up the leaderboard as an individual by playing extremely consistent golf, per usual. Catching fire from holes three to five,
Emma Bunch finished the day with an even 72. The freshman from Denmark fired birdies on all three holes along the way to close the front nine at 35 (-1).
No other player in the Red Sky Classic field has birdied more than
Valentina Origel. The Irapuato, Mexico native has carded 12 birdies to this point, including sub-par scores on holes 1, 2, 6, 11, 14, and 16 today. With a 71 (-1) on the day, Origel climbed 40 spots and now sits in a tie for 16th place.
Round Two Notes

Valentina Origel has birdied 12 times in the first two rounds of the tournament – More than any other golfer in the field.
-Origel's 71 tied her second-best 18 hole effort as an Aggie, trailing just a 70 at the Chambers Bay Invitational in April 2022.
-Sitting in a tie for 16th after two rounds, Origel is in prime position to record her best finish as an Aggie. Her current best finish is a tie for 24th at the 2021 Aggie Invitational.

Alison Gastelum trails just Abby Kiefer of Xavier for the lowest scoring average on Par 3's at 2.57.
-No team has birdied more than NM State (37) through the first two rounds. Fresno State trails the Aggies on the leaderboard by just two, rounding out the second day with 35.
-Only Pepperdine posted a lower score than NM State on Tuesday. The Waves lead the tournament and rank 25th nationally.
-NM State and Pepperdine are the only two schools to sit at par or better for Par 3 holes. Both the Aggies and Waves sit at exactly a 3.00 scoring average.
