Complete WAC Release
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – In a release issued by the Western Athletic Conference Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that NM State junior sprinter Aliyah Logan was named this week's Female Track Athlete of the Week.
This comes after Logan's exceptional performance in the 60-meter hurdles this past weekend at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
In the qualifying round of the event, Logan ran the fastest time of any runner competing in the event, with a time of 8.53 seconds. Logan continued to improve on her mark as the day went on, cutting her time in the semifinal round by nearly a tenth of a second, crossing the line at 8.44 seconds, finishing second overall in her heat, sending her to the 60-meter hurdle finals.
In the finals, Logan put on the best performance of her career, setting a new personal best in the event with an 8.27 second time, finishing third in the event overall and breaking her own NM State record for the fastest time in school history, which she initially set last year at the WAC Indoor T&F Championships. In addition, Logan's final time was the top time in the conference and ranked 21st in the nation this season as of Jan. 17.
Now, Logan becomes the first Aggie this year to win WAC Track Athlete of the Week and the first to win a WAC Athlete of the Week award since Phethisang Makhethe did last indoor season (Feb. 15, 2022) when she secured her second Field Athlete of the Week.
Logan will look to continue her dominance this weekend as she gets set to compete in the MLK Collegiate Invitational up in Albuquerque this weekend, along with the rest of the NM State Indoor T&F team.
