LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Nothing quite beats the comfort of home and NM State women's golf proved that on Tuesday. After entering the day in eighth place, the Aggies surged six spots up the leaderboard and will enter the final round in second. NM State shot 279 (-9) on Tuesday – the lowest team score in the field.
Emma Bunch led the charge for the Aggies on Tuesday, shooting a bogey-free 68. Going four-under in the second round, Bunch now sits tied for fifth among all individuals entering the final round.
All four scoring Aggies shot under-par on Tuesday afternoon with
Angela Garvin and
Valentina Origel both contributing 70s (-2) while
Alison Gastelum added a one-under 71. Origel got red-hot between holes four and eight, shooting five-under throughout the stretch.
Entering the final round, both Bunch and Garvin will have a chance to compete for the individual title. Bunch remains tied for fifth while Garvin is tied for ninth entering Wednesday. Nevada's Leah John continues her reign atop the leaderboard, shooting a 135 (-7) through two rounds.
Among NM State individuals,
Kaylee Chen leads the way with a 148 (+4).
Marley Moncada and
Camille Pazouki remain just behind Chen, carding 152 and 153, respectively.
In Wednesday's final round, NM State will be paired with Long Beach State, Boston College, and UC Davis. The Aggies trail the Beach by eight strokes entering the final round. All of the action from the NMSU Golf Course will once again begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT.
Round Two Notes
