HONOLULU – After entering the day in second place and just one shot off of the lead, NM State remains in second place as the Rainbow Wahine Invitational as the tournament heads to the final round. However, the Aggies lost a few strokes to Baylor and will now by chasing 11 strokes over the final 18 holes.
NM State holds a comfortable eight-stroke lead over third place UC Davis. As a team, the Aggies shot 294 on Tuesday and have combined for a 580 (+4) team score over the first two days on the island.
Alison Gastelum has posted the Aggies' low-score through two rounds and enters the final round in a tie for fourth place. On Tuesday, the Chihuahua, Mexico native carded a 70 (-2) that featured three birdies. After the turn, Gastelum fired an even 36 that saw her sink nine straight pars.
After entering the day atop the leaderboard,
Angela Garvin slipped to 11th place on Tuesday. Garvin now remains tied with teammate
Emma Bunch at an even 144. Bunch posted her second straight round at par after shooting a 72 on Tuesday afternoon with a pair of birdies.
The Aggies will enter the final round in a grouping with Baylor, UC Davis, and Cal State Fullerton. The teams will once again have a shotgun start beginning at 9:00 a.m. local time (1:00 p.m. MT).
