NM State looks to earn second straight outdoor title and first in Conference USA

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Following a cross country season that saw a quintet of Aggies earn All-CUSA honors during the fall semester, NM State will return to action for track & field season in 2024. 2023 WAC Coach of the Year Joseph Rath announced both the indoor and outdoor schedules for the Aggies, featuring a bevy of meets around the region.

During the outdoor season, the Aggies will compete in four regular season meets ahead of the CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships, held Feb. 23-24 from Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va. NM State opens the 2024 campaign Jan. 13 at the Red Raider Open, hosted by Texas Tech. While the Aggies have competed in Lubbock to begin the season since 2020, this is the first year the team will compete at the invite-only Red Raider Open as opposed to the Corky Classic.

The Aggies then follow up with a trio of meets at the Albuquerque Convention Center, hosted by New Mexico - The MLK Invitational (Jan. 20), the New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 2-3), and Don Kirby Invitational (Feb. 9-10).

Last season, the Aggies posted a runner-up finish at the 2023 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, highlighted by a sweep of the 200m and 400m by Jhana Downie.

Eight meets comprise the outdoor schedule, starting with the Willie Williams Classic (Mar. 22-23). This is the first of two trips to Tucson for NM State, with the team also competing in the Desert Heat Classic (Apr. 26-28).

The Crimson & White will compete as a split team at the Texas Relays (Mar. 27-30) and Stanford Invitational (Mar. 27-30), and will do the same in April at the Beach Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific (Apr. 11-13).

NM State will make its first trip to El Paso of the 2024 outdoor season April 19th and 20th, while select athletes will also participate at the LSU Alumni Gold meet (Apr. 19-20).

The 2024 CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place in the Borderland, hosted by UTEP at Kidd Field on May 10-12. The Miners last played host to the conference championship in 2017, coinciding with the program's last outdoor conference title.

Last season the Aggies hoisted their first outdoor track & field championship since 2004, powered by another sweep of the 200m and 400m by 2023 WAC Outstanding Track Performer Jhana Downie.
