MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – After a shortened affair on day one that interrupted second-round action on Monday, the NM State women's golf team returned on Tuesday to The Beach Invite from Mission Viejo Country Club for the rest of round two and the decisive third round. The Aggies shot 308 in the second round and 305 in round three to finish with a total of 613 on the day and take sixth place overall.
Alison Gastelum paced the Aggies overall, finishing tied for 13
th place with a 232 (+16) on the weekend while also recording a 74 (+2) in the final round. The fourth-year junior shot one over par on both the front and back nine, going even from hole seven through eighteen for her best stretch of the day.
Valentia Origel shot a 73 (+1) in the second round, the fourth-best total among all competitors and top of the leaderboard for NM State, including a birdie on hole one and hole eighteen.
Emma Bunch and Origel along with Inara Sharma of Santa Clara finished in a three-way tie for 40
th with scores of 238 (+22).
The Aggies will head to the MountainView Collegiate, hosted by Kansas State, at the MountainView Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona from March 17-19. Following the tournament, NM State will play in two others before the 2023 WAC Championships on April 23-25 in Blaine, Washington.
Round Two Notes
- NM State's score of 308 in round two was third best among the 15 schools competing at The Beach Invitational.
- The Aggies shot six birdies on the second eighteen, improving from three in the first round (Alison Gastelum, Valetina Origel, Emma Bunch and Arantza Armas)
- After 36 holes, NM State sat in eighth place with a 633.

- The Aggies lowered their team score for the third straight round (305), tied for the second-best team performance in the final eighteen.
- NM State hit ten birdies in the final round, tied for the most among all schools in round three.
- Victoria Origel led the Aggies in birdies with Birdies at The Beach Invitational with five.
- NM State concludes its first tournament of the spring with a sixth-place finish.
