LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Aggies are attending their third straight meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center this Friday, returning from last week's UNM Team Open. Hosted by the University of New Mexico, both the Aggie Track & Field teams will get the opportunity to hone their skills in preparation for the 2023 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships held in Spokane, Washington on Friday Feb. 24
th and Saturday, Feb. 25
th.
Aggie Excellence
- Makhethe's mark of 20.06m in the Weight Throw at the MLK Collegiate Invitational places her 32nd in the country.
- Logan's time of 8.29 in the 60m hurdles at the Corky Classic is currently 46th in the nation.
- The 4x400 relay team finished with a time of 3:39.23 at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, good for 45th in the nation. This time also represents the second-fastest in NM State history.
The Starting Line
- The Don Kirby Elite Invitational is the Aggies final indoor track meet held in Albuquerque ahead of the 2023 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, held Friday, Feb. 24th and Saturday, Feb. 25th in Seattle, Washington.

- 26 athletes are scheduled to participate in 11 events over the two-day meet.
Back Track | New Mexico Collegiate Classic | 2.3-4.23
- The 3,000m run was the highlight of day one with three Aggies placing in the top five. Maggie Gibbs brought home the silver, placing second with a personal best time of 9:58.96. Thobile Amon finished right behind Gibbs in third place, also setting a personal best after crossing the finish line at 10:03.18 mark. Emily Stutesman was the third Aggie to finish inside the top five with a 10:14.58 time, placing fifth overall – the third straight meet where she had finished an event inside the top five. Kayla O'Connell placed seventh in the race also set a new personal best in the event with an official time of 10:39.88.
- The 4x400 team of Terice Steen, Jhana Downie, T'Erica Boyd and Jahnya Hill pulled off an impressive performance in Albuquerque. The team finished the race fourth overall with a time of 3:39.23, defeating a number of top schools including TCU and Grand Canyon, while placing themselves into the number two spot all-time in NM State history for the event.
- Terice Steen rounded out the top finishers for the Aggies, taking 14th in the 400m dash, collecting a new personal best with a time of 55.16.
- A trio of Aggies made the top-20 in the mile run, with Thobile Amon setting the pace for the team with a personal best time of 4:58.81 to take eighth. Maggie Gibbs claimed 11th with a time of 5:01.21 to set a new personal best, with Emily Stutesman taking 17th with a time of 5:14.88 to round out the top finishers. Kayla O'Connell recorded a personal best after crossing the line with a time of 5:21.60.
