Namie's Night Not Enough for NM State in Utah

Mitch Namie had three hits, including a home run, in NM State's loss

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Following a 23-run offensive explosion on Tuesday night, NM State looked to ride the momentum into a WAC series against Utah Tech. Unfortunately, the bats cooled off in flight as the Trailblazers took the pitchers' duel by a score of 4-2.

The long ball was flying early in St. George. To lead off the game, Mitch Namie lifted a towering shot to left field, giving the Aggies an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the first, Utah Tech used a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead and would never surrender it.

Namie was the bright spot for NM State offensively on Friday. Following the home run, Namie added two more base hits, including a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Despite falling to 0-4 to begin the season, Treyjen Meza has provided several stellar outings for NM State. On Friday, Meza worked 5.2 innings, allowing just three runs and striking out six.

Out of the bullpen, Matthew Maloney and Will Sierra provided the help the Aggies needed on Friday. On in relief of Meza, Maloney induced a fly out to Cal Villareal in right field for the final out of the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Utah Tech touched up Maloney for a run but the right-hander left the bases loaded.

One inning later, Sierra entered with the Aggies trailing by a pair. Sierra worked a spotless eighth inning, forcing two groundouts and striking out a Trailblazer.
