TUCSON, Ariz. – Everything was clicking for NM State on Sunday as the Aggies matched the fourth-lowest single round in school history. As a team, the Aggies shot a 282 (-6) in the final round and moved into 13th place at the MountainView Collegiate.
The Aggies were led on Sunday by
Emma Bunch, who shot a 69 (-3). Each of the 18 holes for Bunch on Saturday were at least par or better with birdies coming on holes four, six, and fifteen. Bunch's three-under was the lowest score of any Aggie golfer in Tucson for the weekend.
Bunch was trailed narrowly by
Alison Gastelum, who fired a 70 (-2). Throughout the day, Gastelum led all Aggies with four birdies to help make the climb. Saturday's star,
Kaylee Chen, finished right behind Gastelum with a 71 (-1).
In addition, Isa Laulhé posted her lowest score of the weekend and lowest score of her young NM State career on Sunday. Laulhé fired a 77 (+5) in the final round to build momentum for her next tournament.
Following the trip to Tucson, the Aggies will head to the Aloha State of Hawaii for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic between March 27 and 29. The trip to Hawaii will be one of the final tune-ups for NM State before competing in the WAC Championships in Washington in April.
Final Round Notes
- Sunday's final round was memorable for NM State as it matched the fourth-lowest single round score in school history
- Kaylee Chen posted the best individual finish for the Aggies, tying for 33rd.
- NM State finished above three Power Five schools including co-hosts Missouri and Kansas State.
- Team champions Iowa State set a new NCAA 54-hole record, shooting an 804 (-60) over the weekend. Individual champion Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn of Iowa State tied the NCAA 54-hole record, shooting a 191 (-25).
