NM State Heads to Hawai'i for Anuenue Spring Break Classic

The Aggies will tee off at 12:00 p.m. MT/8:00 a.m. HDT on Monday

LAHAINA, Hawai'i – While head coach Danny Bowen and the NM State women's golf team may enjoy soaking up the rays in the Aloha State, the team still has one thing on its mind: Winning. The Aggies will tee off at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic on Monday and look to bring some hardware back to Las Cruces.
 
In the opening round of the three-day event, NM State will be paired with Cal Poly and Boise State. The event begins with a 12:00 p.m. MT shotgun start (8:00 a.m. HDT) on Monday, March 26.

Notable Anuenue individual champions include Daniela Holmqvist (California, 2012), who held the 36-hole lead in the 2020 Women's British Open, Grace Na (Pepperdine, 2013-14), a four-time All-American and four-time WCC Player of the Year and Andrea Wong (UC Davis, 2015), a three-year Symetra Tour member.

2023 marks the ninth year of the Rainbow Wahine's tournament on Maui. The first six years were contested on Kapalua's Bay Course. Waikoloa's Kings Course hosted for one year before Royal Kā'anapali became the host venue in 2021.

Like most collegiate golf tournaments, the best way to follow along with the Aggies' 2023 trip to Hawai'i will be on Golfstat. Live updates will also be provided throughout the day via the NM State Women's Golf Twitter page.
 
The Field
Several ranked teams will be competing in the Anuenue Spring Break Classic. The tournament will feature a 14-team field with No. 1 Stanford also sending a trio of individuals. The field includes: Boise State, Brigham Young, Cal Poly, No. 41 Denver, Gonzaga, Hawai'i, New Mexico State, No. 25 Pepperdine, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle, Tulane, UC Davis and No. 30 UCLA.
 
Other top-ranked players include No. 31 Lion Higo (Pepperdine), No. 34 Sadie Englemann (Stanford), No. 46 Anna Foster (Denver) and No. 54 Caroline Canales (UCLA).
 
Format
The tournament will last three days in a tropical paradise with each day featuring 18 holes of golf. Per usual, the tournament will feature five members per team with the four lowest scores counting towards the team score.

8 – College golf teams from eight different states will descend upon Hawai'i for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic.  
7 – Seven of the 14 teams are listed in Golfstat's Top 100: No. 1 Stanford, No. 24 Pepperdine, No. 43 Denver, No. 60 Tulane, No. 83 Gonzaga, No. 91 NM State and No. 98 San Francisco.
1 – Kaylee Chen will make her debut in the top spot of the NM State lineup. On Monday, both Chen and Emma Bunch will tee off on the seventh hole.
2 – The Anuenue Spring Break Classic is the second-to-last regular season tournament for NM State. Following the trip to Hawai'i, NM State will go to Provo, Utah for the Cougar Collegiate Invitational as its final tune-up before the WAC Championships.
