PROVO, Utah – After one day at the Riverside Classics, hosted by Brigham Young, there's a pair of two's next to NM State women's golf team on the leaderboard. As a team, the Aggies are tied for second place with the hosts, trailing just Sacramento State heading into the final round of action.
As an individual,
Meiji Tungprapunvong remains tied for second as well, shooting a 143 (-1) on Monday. In the opening round, Tungprapunvong shot a 71 (-1) before going for an even 72 over the second set of 18 holes.
Also remaining inside the top ten is
Alison Gastelum, who sits in a tie for eighth place. Gastelum was the lone Aggie to shoot under-par in the second round, firing a 71 (-1). Entering the final day, Gastelum sits with a 145 (+1) on her scorecard and looks to help NM State make a push towards a title.
Round One Notes
- Alison Gastelum got some momentum swinging for NM State when she holed out for eagle on 12.
- Meiji Tungprapunvong got hot on the back nine, shooting 33 (-3) with a trio of birdies after the turn. Emma Bunch was right behind Tungprapunvong, shooting a 34 (-2) on the final nine holes.
- Tungprapunvong was the lone Aggie to finish the opening round below par, shooting a 71 (-1).
Round Two Notes
- After 36 holes, NM State sits alone in second place, firing a 584 (+8) on the day. As a team, NM State trails just Sacramento State, who shot 571 (-5) on Monday.
- Meiji Tungprapunvong ends the opening day tied for second place, firing a 143 (-1). Ella Kraft of Sacramento State holds just a one-stroke lead heading into the final round.
- Alison Gastelum went 10-10 on pars to open the second round.
- As an individual, Alex Quihuis fired an even 36 on the front nine, birdieing hole seven.
- Gastelum and Tungprapunvong both shot one-under on the back nine.
