LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Day one of NM State Track & Fields journey across southern California is complete, and several Aggies had exceptional performances on day one with a handful setting personal bests.
Pacific Coast Intercollegiate – Long Beach, Calif.
Bailey Beene kicked off the weekend with a personal best performance in the javelin throw, breaking her previous mark of 43.48 meters with a best new mark of 45.09m – taking fourth place in the event overall.
In the high jump, El Paso native Aileen Alvarado produced her second-best jump of her career with a 1.56-meter jump – just 0.04 meters shy of her personal best mark (1.60m)
Two more Aggies broke their personal best in the hammer throw on Thursday. First was Makiya Moore, who broke past her previous best of 53.91 meters with a 54.68-meter toss – the second-best mark in her heat.
Next was Emily Birch, who broke her personal record with her first toss in the hammer throw, setting a mark of 61.02 meters – a mark she broke previously this season at the West Texas Spring Open (March 18) with a 60.08-meter performance – finishing sixth overall in the event.
Mt. SAC Relays – Walnut, Calif.
Only two Aggies completed in the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday; Maggie Gibbs and Emily Stutesman both took the line for the 10,000-meter run in Walnut, Calif. Thursday night. Gibbs had a nice pace in her race and nearly broke her personal best time of 34:13.56 with a finishing time of 34:17.65.
Emily Stutesman ended the night with an emphatic performance, taking first place with a time of 34:33.80, while also recording a personal best in the process. This time also improved her standings in the NM State all-time records, moving into second place.
