Jhana Downie wins the 200m dash at the Beach Invitational

LOS ANGELES – After three days of stiff competition, the Aggies time in Southern California has finally come to an end. Day three saw some impressive performances from a number of Aggies, including Jhana Downie who took the top spot in the 200m dash while setting a new outdoor personal record at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach.

Going up against a deep field of 71 athletes, Downie not only took the top spot in her heat, but also took the top spot in the event by recording a 23.66 (-1.5 m/s) finish – a new outdoor personal-record for the Junior out of Sunrise, Florida.

This time also ranks as the second fastest time in the WAC and the third fastest in the D1 Mountain Region this season.

Three other Aggies also competed in the 200m dash: Sierra Brewer (25.50), Jody Blackwood (25.51) and Aliyah Logan (26.18) also competed alongside Downie in the 200m – all placing inside the top 45.

In the 100m dash, Sierra Brewer set a personal-record 11.83 (+1.4 m/s) finish, placing 15th in the event.

Aliyah Logan took the fifth overall spot in the 100m hurdles, finishing with a time of 13.54 (+1.4 m/s)

The 400m hurdles saw first year Aggie, T'Erica Boyd, place inside the top 20 with a 1:02.53 finish.

Other events the Aggies competed in on Saturday included the 400m dash, Discus throw, shot put, long jump, and triple jump.
