Lobos Blank Aggies in Las Cruces

The Battle of I-25 series is now even at one game apiece

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – It was a tough night for the Aggies as they faced off against their in-state rivals, New Mexico. Throughout the game, the Lobos' bats carried the way as the school from Albuquerque cruised to a 13-0 victory at Presley Askew Field.

From the very beginning, the Lobos dominated the game, scoring four runs in the first inning and following it up with four more unearned runs in the second inning. Making his first start for NM State, Will Sierra took the loss after allowing the four first inning runs

The Aggies struggled to get anything going offensively, only managing to scrape together seven hits throughout the entire game. No NM State player managed to record a multi-hit game as Nolan Funke was the lone Aggie to notch an extra-base hit.

Meanwhile, the Lobos offense continued to pile on the runs, hitting back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning and adding another home run in the sixth to cap off their scoring. Entering the game, the Lobos ranked second nationally in batting averaging, hitting .333 as a team on the season.

Despite their best efforts, the Aggies were unable to mount a comeback and ultimately fell to the Lobos by a final score of 13-0. It was a disappointing loss for NM State, but they know they'll have two more chances to face off against their rivals later in the season. With the season series now tied at one game apiece, fans will be in for a treat when the Lobos return to Las Cruces on May 16.
