ARLINGTON, Texas – Following a season in which it started 4-2 in conference play, four Aggies have been honored with all-conference selections based on a vote of the league's 10 head coaches.
Anna Pinaieva and
Lisa Zhu have each been recognized for their performance in singles play while the senior tandem of
Bella Nguyen and
Miranda Bishard collected honors as a doubles team.
Pinaieva, a freshman from Brovary, Ukraine, was named First Team All-WAC after pacing the Aggies with 12 total wins in her debut season with the program, including posting an impressive 7-2 record in WAC play.
As the Aggies' No. 1 player, Pinaieva's year was highlighted by picking up wins in seven of her first eight matches capped off by a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) win over WAC Player of the Year and WAC Freshman of the Year Emma Persson of Tarleton. In addition to becoming the first Aggie to earn WAC Player of the Week honors since 2021, Pinaieva marks the Aggies' first First Team All-WAC selection since
Gavi Kalaga claimed first team honors at the No. 6 spot in 2020.
Zhu, a sophomore from Beijing, China, also joined Pinaieva on the list of singles award winners as she picked up a Second Team All-WAC distinction after turning in an 11-9 overall record and a 4-4 record against WAC opponents.
After opening conference play with a 1-2 record, Zhu bounced back to win three consecutive matches, including a win on the road over Abilene Christian's Maryjoe Crisologo. Zhu represented the Aggies on the No. 2 line this season and became the first Second Team All-WAC selection from NM State since
Harsha Challa and
Chloe Gavino each claimed honors two seasons ago.
The Aggies' group of all-conference members wrapped up with
Miranda Bishard and
Bella Nguyen who have joined forces to become one of the strongest duos in the conference over the last two seasons. In a season after they helped carry the Aggies to a WAC Tournament title and earned WAC All-Tournament honors in 2022, Bishard and Nguyen posted an overall record of 11-10 at the No. 2 position to represent the lone Aggie doubles team to claim 10 or more wins this season.
The pair also submitted a 6-3 record in conference play to tie for the team lead in WAC wins. Bishard and Nguyen made their names known across the conference early on after starting league play with a 5-1 record.
