TUCSON, Ariz. – The 2023 outdoor track and field regular season has come to a close with the conclusion of the Desert Heart Classic in Tucson on Saturday night. Multiple Aggies recorded personal bests and strong performances in a competitive field filled with hopefuls for the 2023 NCAA Preliminaries.
Terice Steen led the way after rewriting the NM State all-time 400m hurdles record for the third time this season – all by Steen herself – crossing the line with a time of 55.80 and finishing in sixth place.
Terice Steen has held the Aggie record in the 400m hurdles since 2021, but using that time as a measuring stick for herself has yielded impressive results for the junior from Hanover, Jamaica. Twice this season Steen has eclipsed her previous best, lowering her best in the event to 59.07 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in late April. At the Desert Heat Classic, Steen broke her own record for a third time this outdoor season, crossing the line in sixth place with a time of 58.80.

Breanna Moss also set a personal best in the 400m hurdles, finishing with a time of 1:01.51.
Aliyah Logan took eighth among college entrants in the 100m hurdles, crossing the line with a wind-adjusted time of 13.74 (-1.5 m/s). The 4x100 team of
Jhana Downie,
Sierra Brewer,
Terice Steen and
Aliyah Logan recorded a time of 44.80, a season best and the second-best time in the NM State All-Time record book.

Jhana Downie captured fifth-place in the 400m dash, tallying a final time of 52.85, a new personal best for the junior.
Thulisile Amon took sixth in the 800m run with a time of 2:08.38, while Anglea Korte turned in a personal best in the event, finishing with a time of 2:20.68 – her first time competing in the event during the outdoor season.
Thobile Amon finished seventh in the 1500m run after posting a time of 4:28.33, and
Leah Clarke recorded a new personal best, crossing the line with a time of 5:06.11. In the 4x400, a team of Downie,
T'Erica Boyd, Steen and Moss crossed the line with a mark of 3:39.49, the second-fastest time in NM State history, one-tenth of a second behind the record of 3:39.39, set by Steen, Downie, Boyd and
Jahnya Hill earlier this season.

Miranda Tcheutchoua opened NM State's day with a top-five finish, taking fourth place in the hammer throw after recording a distance of 59.30m (194-6"), a new personal best.
Bailey Beene earned herself a ninth-place finish in the javelin toss, recording a mark of 46.43m (152-4").
Makiya Moore followed up with a tenth-place finish in the discus, totaling a mark of 48.22m (158-2").
Rebecca Green took tenth-place in the shot put with a toss of 14.78m (48-6").

A pair of Aggie freshman,
Cameron Hodges and
Angelina Killings, recorded new personal records in the long jump after tallying final distances of 5.47m (17-11.5") and 5.46m (17-11") respectively.
