RESULTS
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Following a rain-soaked start to the 2023 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, student-athletes returned to Homer Bryce Stadium for the second day of action. The Aggies, especially the throws team, made their mark across the seven events they competed in, including a quintet of top-eight finishes. After the first two days, NM State sits in 4th place with 34 points. Utah Valley maintains their lead with 40 points.
Friday
Aliyah Logan finished second with a time of 13.22 in the 100m hurdle prelims, losing out to Keria Christie-Galloway by six-thousands of a second while setting a personal best in the process.
Valissa Brown took the top spot in her heat, finishing with the third best time among entrants (13.40) – a personal record.
T'Erica Boyd became the third Aggie to qualify for Saturday's final, recording the sixth fastest time after posting a time of 13.71, another personal best in the event for NM State.
Thulisile Amon claimed the top spot in her heat and finished with the second fastest time overall (2:08.88) to earn her place in Saturday's final.
Jhana Downie finished at the top of the leaderboard for the second day in a row, qualifying for the 400m dash finals after posting a time of 52.86 – just short of her personal best in the event.
Sierra Brewer recorded a new personal best in the 100m dash prelims, posting a time of 11.68, advancing to tomorrow's final.
Grace Pendarvis finished with the second-best time in her heat after crossing the line with a time of 11.87.
Rebecca Green powered her way to a third-place finish in the shotput, recording a final distance of 15.22m (49-11.25"). This marks her best performance in any WAC Track & Field Championship (Indoor or Outdoor).
Alesha Lane finished in ninth after tallying a mark of 13.96m (45-9.5"), a new personal best and her best finish at any WAC Track & Field Championship.
Emily Birch claimed NM State's best finish through two days of competition, taking home the silver medal after recording a final distance of 59.85m (196-4") in the hammer throw. This marks the first time medal finish she's earned at any WAC Track & Field Championship.
Miranda Tcheutchuoa finished right behind Green, taking third with a mark of 57.75 (189-6") to earn six points; the first WAC Championship medal finish in her collegiate career.
Makiya Moore marked the third Aggie in the top-eight of the event, finishing in seventh with a toss of 52.79m (173-2"). This is her fourth time recording a top-eight finish at any WAC Track & Field Championship.
Kaelyn Fenstermacher made her first appearance at the WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the event, recording a distance of 48.18m (158-1").
Valissa Brown set a personal best, with a final distance of 5.97m (19-7") to take eighth place and earn NM State another point in the standings.
