OREM, Utah – Runs have been abundant throughout the first two games of the NM State and Utah Valley baseball series. After combining for 40 runs on Friday night, the Aggies and Wolverines combined for 22 additional runs on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies were once again bested by Utah Valley in seven innings, falling 16-6 in Orem.
After Utah Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, NM State got on the scoreboard in the second.
Christian Perez led off the inning with a single before
Preston Godfrey lifted his seventh home run of the season to right field, bringing the Aggies back within a run.
Following a Wolverine long ball in the bottom of the third inning, the Aggies once again had an answer in the top of the fourth. After a two-homer night on Friday, Perez launched his third home run of the series down the left field line. One pitch later, Godfrey belted his round tripper of the game and tied the contest at four apiece.
Utah Valley quickly responded in front of their home crowd, posting five unanswered runs over the next two innings. The sixth inning saw both sides blanked for the first time in the series, needing 13 innings to post double zeroes.
Keith Jones II had enough of the scoring drought and decided to put an end to it. With
Romeo Ballesteros on first after a walk, Jones II hit an opposite-field home run that brought NM State back within three.
Half an inning later, Utah Valley returned to its Friday night form with a seven-run inning, ending with a walk-off single. The Wolverines battled against a trio of Aggie pitchers before eventually securing the series win with a run-rule victory.
