MADISON, Wis. – NM State made the trip to Madison, Wis. to compete in the Badger Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin. With a field loaded with talent, NM State enters the second day of competition in a tie for ninth place with Yale. The Aggies remain above Power Five foes Indiana and Rutgers and fellow Conference USA member Sam Houston.
Emma Bunch led the way for NM State with four birdies on Sunday afternoon. Bunch used a trio of birdies on the front nine to negate a double-bogey and escape at even par. In a bit of an anomaly, Bunch, alongside her other three scoring teammates, all shot a 75 (+3) in the opening round.
On the back nine,
Kaylee Chen pieced together one of the most impressive stretches of any golfer in the Badger Invitational field. Chen used a trio of birdies on the back nine to go out at one-under. After a four-over front nine, Chen joined Bunch in the 75 (+3) club for Sunday. Also joining the duo were
Valentina Origel and
Alison Gastelum, while
Angela Garvin finished at 76 (+4)
As a team, the Aggies fired an even 300 on Sunday, good for twelve-over par. For Monday's second round, the Aggies will be paired with North Florida and UTSA and will begin playing at 8:00 a.m. MT.
