LYNCHBURG, Va. - Coming off an unfamiliar feeling of two consecutive home losses, the Aggies looked to make a turnaround and get their first road win of the season. After a strong showing in the first half, NM State couldn't shake the three-point shooting of Liberty and fell 83-58 in Lynchburg.
Christian Cook led the Aggies in the points column with 15 points and went 3-5 from beyond the arc. Femi Odukale and Jordan Rawls were the only other double-digit scores on the night, both adding 11 points. Kasoi Ezeagu and Odukale led on the boards, both recording seven rebounds on the night. Ezeagu also added eight points.
First half
- Coming out of the gate, the Flames would find their way on the board first, stemming from a Colin Porter basket from beyond the arc on their initial possession. It would take another two minutes of back-to-back missed shots from both teams before NM State found its first points from a Kaosi Ezeagu slam with 16:46 left in the half.
- After exchanging baskets back and forth over the next six minutes, Tanahj Pettway would sink a mid-range jumper to make the score 12-11 and give NM State its first lead of the game. Following that possession, Peebles would drain an open three-pointer that would ignite an 11-0 Liberty run and give them a 23-12 lead with 9:35 left in the half.
- Over the next three and a half minutes, the Flames would continue to fight back and forth with the Aggies to keep their 10-point lead. To end the half, a layup by Christian Cook with 21 seconds left and a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Jordan Rawls helped cut the Liberty lead to six going into the halfway mark.
Second Half
- To start the second, Femi Odukale came out with the hot hand for the Aggies, completing a three-pointer from the left corner of the floor that he followed with a layup to put the Aggies within one point of the Flames. That one-point lead would be the closest the Aggies would come within reach of the Flames for the rest of the contest.
- On the next possession for Liberty, another three-pointer from Porter would spark a Liberty 10-0 run to get the momentum back in its favor. From that point on, the Flames found their rhythm and kept it going for the rest of the game. With 12:55 left, Cook tried to give NM State momentum by scoring seven points over the next few minutes to help cut the lead to 57-46. Even with his efforts, Liberty would close out the contest on a 14-6 run.
