ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Making one last trek up I-25 to the largest city in the Land of Enchantment, the Aggies suited up for the Don Kirby Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico. Upperclassmen paced NM State on the day, led by
Maggie Gibbs' performance in the 3000 meter run. Miranda Tcheutchua recorded her fourth top-six finish in four meets in the weight throw, and
Jhana Downie recorded another strong showing in the 200m dash to take seventh.
Kicking off the final meet of the regular season was the weight throw, featuring six members of the Crimson & White. Second-year Aggie
Miranda Tcheutchoua has been a model of consistency this season for the Aggies, finishing no less than sixth at every meet in 2024. For the third time in four indoor competitions, the junior from Lusk, Fingal, Ireland turned in a team-leading performance, finishing in sixth place with a mark of 18.64m (61-2") – her best result of the year.
Senior
Makiya Moore took 12
th with a distance of 17.83m (58-6"), while sophomore
Alesha Lane recorded a new personal best of 17.16m (56-3") to finish in 17
th. Joining Lane in setting a personal best in the event was true freshman
Ladina Kobler, posting a distance of 13.90m (45-7").
Running in the unseeded 400m dash, junior
Breanna Moss posted a new personal best time of 57.15 seconds, taking second in her heat and 25
th overall.
Absent from the Aggies' last meet in the Duke City, senior
Maggie Gibbs made her presence felt in the 3000m, posting a season-best time of 9:58.08 to finish second overall.
Kayla O'Connell also posted a season-best time in the event (10:38.76) en route to a tenth-place finish.
Competing for the first time this season,
Angela Korte was the lone Aggie representative in the 600m, taking second in her heat with a time of 1:39.08.
Jhana Downie closed the day of action for NM State in the 200m dash, the only Aggie in a field that included student athletes from programs such as Oregon, Stanford, BYU and UTSA among others. Competing with a pair of runners from the University of Oregon, the senior topped her heat with a time of 23.63 – good for seventh overall.
