PHOENIX – NM State began the weekend with 18 holes at the Papago Golf Course on Thursday as they opened play at the PING/ASU Invitational. After one round, the Aggies find themselves in 17
th place after shooting a combined 302 (+14).
 
The day was highlighted by an impressive individual effort from 
Emma Bunch who posted a first-round 69 (-3) to end the day tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard while sitting just one stroke off the lead entering the second round. In total, Bunch tallied three birdies, including two among the first five holes. On Thursday, Bunch took full advantage on the par 4s with all three birdies coming within the 10 par 4s. This also led her to posting the second-lowest par-4 average score through the first 18 holes.
 
Elsewhere, Isabel Laulhe recorded the second-lowest score among Aggies as she finished the day with a 73 (+1) to end the day tied for 40th. Meanwhile, 
Alison Gastelum finished with a 79 (+7), 
Angela Garvin posted an 81 (+9) and 
Marley Moncada notched an 83 (+11).
 
The Aggies will return to action on Friday morning with Moncada going off first, followed by Garvin, Gastelum, Laulhe and finally Bunch. In round two, NM State will play alongside New Mexico and individuals from Baylor, Oregon State, Stanford and Kansas.
