Aggies Drop Home Match to Liberty

NM State falls on Senior Day.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After three matches on the road, the Aggies returned to the NM State Tennis Center where they hosted Liberty in their final home match of the season. Despite showing some fight, NM State fell 4-1 to the Flames on Saturday morning. The Aggies are now 5-13 overall and 2-3 in CUSA play.

The Flames quickly took control of the match as they earned the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The Aggies then turned the attention to singles play where they found a little more success against their CUSA counterpart.

The first match that went final fell in favor of the Aggies as Whitney Moon earned a commanding 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 6 over Liberty's Maria Turchetto. With the win, Moon collected her sixth singles win on the season to rank third among Aggies.

Elsewhere, the Aggies showed fight at No. 2 and No. 3 as Anna Pinaieva and Lisa Zhu each won their first sets. However, Liberty would claim wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 to ultimately clinch the match.
